I'm sorry, but you say "i love all pets" yet due to a baby you kick your poor dog out of the house to live in the back yard. This dog did nothing wrong. The dog deserves better then that! If you can no longer house this dog it might be best to give it up to rescue.

With the type of hair that a shih-tzu has, outside is *really* not the place for it. If you aren't comfortable having pets around your baby, you really should think about finding homes for them where they can be comfortable and should definitely NOT get anymore pets you will simply be banishing to the yard. If you want to have animals, you will need to teach them *and* your baby as it grows how to respect each other.

i ahve a dog and 2 cats. they get along fine. of course he's a golden and they get along with everybody and everything. yeah, animals don't belong outside. are you thinking about getting a cat? it sure sounds like it. why would you get one now? wait till baby gets older if you already don't have one. otherwise, get the one you have declawed and fixed and it will be ok in the house.

I think it's just stereo type that cats and dogs are enemies. Go ahead and put them together, but keep constant watch.
