30,000 square miles of land isn't all that much if you think of it in contrast to how big the united states is. Imagine that lakes rise, rivers change corse, and the fact that america is constantly subjected to natural change.. use your imagination, aliens? NO WAI!?!

It might be helpful if you specified what 30,000 sq. miles you were referring to. Perhaps you are referring to a territory that was given independence.
