You need an old toothbrush and a good cleaning agent. The cleaning agent will make the dirt come off and you can controll the pressure you apply with the brush, so you are not in any way damaging your shoe.

First scrub the shoe with water gently, then apply the cleaning agent, and scrub, so you make a lather and the dirt comes off. After your satisfied, you can rinse off with a sponge and water.
