When I IM someone, my first and last names are in the conversation screen, but I would prefer it not be. I have looked under prefences and anywhere else I can think of, but can't find a way to fix this.

Please help.

i know that when you sent them a ok to be added to the messenger list that you had an option to change how your name is shown,,,after that I have no idea how to get it off since its already on there list as what you sent them in contact details..they would have to change it

This happened to me. I saw my full name on my screen + I asked the guy what he saw on his. It was NOT my full name....it was the one of the pref. nicknames I had chosen.
1) OPEN YOUR YAHOO MESSENGER
2) AT THE TOP CLICK: Messenger > My Profile
3) A DIALOG BOX OPENS
4) It shows your status + profile ID as it appears to others.
5) IF you want to make changes....
6) CLICK " Create / Edit My Profiles " in the left lower corner of the dialog box.
That will take you to a site where you can make changes.

Try on Messenger > Preferences > Appearance . You will see what you wanted to see.

Or you may change your Y! Profile

I don't believe you can edit it once you have approved it for their buddy list...but I believe they can change it themselves..
