As long as you have warmongers like who is leading terrorist, who took over for Sharon in Israel, and bush in office, peace doesn't stand a chance right now. Add to that people instilling fear that if you vote for this person, we might get bombed again (conservatives) and actually believing them. We will continue to have this problem.

Do you really think that going up to that nice guy Saddam and him saying he wanted peace would mean it??? Unfortunately there has been and always will be crazy people, mean people, people who want to take over the world, etc. Many people have tried to impose peace by taking away everything and telling everyone they had to share nicely and have a class less society. That is communism as just doesn't work. There would also be people who like to work, work aholics and people who would sit around doing nothing expecting the rest of us to do it all for them. There really is no thing as creating a peace based society. Ask all those people in Russia, or the ones that survived the Cultural revolution what they think of imposed peace. The Pax Romana was brought about with a iron fisted military.

Im pretty sure that phrase has been used since what, the cold war?
Look at the progress we've made... -chuckle-
The natural state of mankind is war. The US has been in existence less than 250 years and has been involved in over two dozen MAJOR wars/conflicts. one every ten years. not to mention smaller incursions like bosnia.
Problem is, the people in this world who WANT peace are too timid to take up the scepter of power, or don't instill enough pride or followership in those under them to maintain it. A fundamental flaw of human nature.

We did give peace a chance...then people rammed planes into our buildings proving that there's always someone out there who HATES the U.S.
As far as what's going on in the Middle East, they'll say one thing and everything would be good for while, then all of a sudden there'd be a major problem because they really didn't mean what they said.

Technically, it's sorta impossible for peace to exist, because man has an inbuilt thing for conflict. It's part of the psychosis. Competition is one of the only ways man progresses. However, war is less competition, and more testerone combined with Kalashnikovs....

So long as anyone wants to initiate force against another for any reason there will not be peace. This includes forcing someone to give up their hard earned money (taxes), forcing someone to not put certain things in their bodies (drug laws), forcing someone to live by the ways of your religion, etc.

So long as there are close-minded religious people who think their beliefs are right and everyone else is wrong, then no.
