I agree with your perception of how kids may react to that. My own daughter starts school in late August . On the other hand it can be a reminder to parents to pick up needed items here and there instead of waiting till the last minute and perhaps overlooking some needed things. Plus it's a little easier if the purchases are spread out over several paychecks when cost is an issue.

Hahaha. No I don't think it is. Did it depress you when you were in grade school? It didn't bug me. I actually liked doing back to school shopping because I wanted to see what cool stuff I could milk out of my mommy this year. I wanted to have the badass dinosaur lunchbox and the Power Rangers pencil case. But if I didn't go with my mom, she'd just buy me the crappy stuff.

Stores are out to make money and one way to do that is to advertise your product to as many people as you can as much as you can. School starts for some kids as early as the second week in August, so it's really not *that* early.

In some states school ends in May, and starts again pretty early in August - so at least in those places it is right.

It would probably depress the students who dont like going to school. I personaly love going school shopping early and i still do it. They are only buying supplies its not like they're gunna go to school right their on the spot.

If you get "depressed" by Walmart sales, you have bigger problems than a short vacation.
Schools start again in August in many places, so it makes sense.
I have no sympathy for students who whine about a shorter vacation, at least they get SOMETHING. It's their introduction into the real world.
