Absolutely! Americans are free to decide who their friends/enemies are. There are many factors that enter into choosing friends, as well as enemies. I try never to have enemies as I learned years ago never to burn bridges because you never know who may be boss someday. I choose friends by common interests, hobbies, education level, jobs, and neighbors. However, sometimes people outgrow their friends and it's time to find others. I do know though that if you end up with one good friend, you are among the lucky. For it's hard to find someone who will be your friend no matter what. It's truly a test of loyalty sometimes. A good friend stands by you through thick and thin.

I think you meant to ask:

"Do Americans feel they are free to decide who their friends and who their enemies are?"

And the answer to that would be absoloutley. No one stays friends with people they hate. And no one hates people "just because".

Americans are free to decide a lot of things.

Actually everyone is free to decide whatever they want... it's the consequences of that decision that may cause a problem.

So the real question is "Are you willing to accept the consequences for the decisions you make?"

The problem is not that whether Americans feel they are free. They have absolute freedom but feel others should not have, through their VETO in UN.
