The way I see it is like this:
Why is is that so many people accept that destiny is out of their hands?
Many people say things like "What will be, will be", "my destiny is already written", etc, etc
The way I see it, your path is determined by the choices you make and, yes, some of these choices are hard. Do people who say this use it as a cop out not to make the hard decisions and thereby not accept responsibility for their own actions?
Some people choose to live their life like a leaf on the wind, blowing wherever "destiny" leads them, when they sometimes know that they have picked the easier of two paths

Destiny is an odd concept because we live only in the present. While we can conceivably imagine that parts of our life would be different if we had acted differently in the past, there is not really any way to have perspective into that alternative life. I don't believe in the supernatural but that's not to say I believe that a human's destiny is entirely in their own control. Nature and the actions of others have a dramatic effect on our lives and futures. The only way we can manage to control our destiny is to consciously understand every action we take in the present will have an effect on our future.

Neither. There is no such thing as destiny, in the sense that nothing is pre-planned. If God does exist, even He cannot know what each and every one of us will do and is capable of. Each and every one of us individually has the free will to choose what we do in life, what we accomplish, and how moral we act. My actions are completely determined by me, and yours by you - that is why we are considered responsible for them. How could anyone be responsible for their actions or put in jail if it is already pre-determined by God's destiny and God's will? How could we say Hitler did something wrong when fate or destiny already knew it and he couldn't use his free will to avoid it? No, he chose to do it and he is responsible.
The theory of "God" can only play a part in your decision-making if you let it. If you say, "I will hate Jews or gays or atheists" because you feel that this will keep you out of Hell and into Heaven, this is "God" playing a part in it. You need to make your own decisions based upon society and your own morality and treat others as you would like to be treated without worrying about some coming judgment by an alien (God).

I have worked hard to create a good destiny for myself. Unfortunately I wasn't given tools to begin with, what I did accomplish was destroyed by others, it started when I was a seven year old child, and I have spent the last 40 years fighting just to exist. So, we only create our own destiny if fate or God lets us get away with it!

We can create our destiny if we pay close attention and reflect on the choices we have made in our lives. I have made many mistakes in my life and I have found that upon reflection my choices now bring me closer to happiness. God has a plan for everyone I believe that. But fate, I would hate to think the painful parts of my life were fate. I would prefer to think it was a result of my choices and not something that was not in my control such as fate.

We have the makings of our destiny and the things we do will result to consequences, fate plays when you are destined to be in things which are out of our making and God plays an important role in fulfilling our destiny.

We create our own destiny and some call it the fate. God's role is not part of it, but He designed the whole thing. Every one has the freedom to select his will. Full freedom is given to us and He is watching us to select the best out of it. The choice is yours.

I think God allows me the opportunity through free will to make my own choices, but when I have made enough bad choices He may intervene with an opportunity created for my benefit.
Yes to both questions---about 70-30 on the choice to fate ratio.

I believe the human race may ponder that question for a million years and still not know the answer. Perhaps finding the answer is our ultimate destiny.
