Yes AND No. There is only one model of Skyline that is legally able to be imported to the USA, the R33 GTS/GTR from 96-98.
The R32 and R34 are ineligible for importation for STREET use, but are able to be imported as race/show cars. The earlier models of R33 93-95 fall into the Show/Race catergory also.
The 96-98 R33 is the only model that has been test crashed in the USA, and only needs minor modifications to be made legal. The laws changed in December 05 regarding the R32 and R34 Models, before december the 91-98 models were eligible for importation. So you will still see some R32 and R34 Skylines about, as they were imported PRIOR to the law change.
There is a skyline being released into the USA market in 2008, but it will be badged as an Infiniti.

Some of you are misinformed. The skylike is not banned due to too much power. I've been to Japan, and I can tell you that there are skylines all over the place, and the majority of them are plain jane not any faster than a Ford Tempo vehicle. There are some that are just flat wicked, but most of them are not. So the theory about the cop's being afraid of them is nonsense. You would have to import the vehicle you want, and you would have to modify it to meet US inspection criteria. Some models simply cannot be modified to meet that countries inspection criteria. The same is true if you take a vehicle TO Japan. This process is not cheap, so it's usually more cost effective to just find a different car that you like.

If I remember correctly, the Skyline does not meet some U.S. Department of Transportation standards, but I can't remember specifically if it failed the crash tests, emission tests or something else.
Every few years there is a rumor that Nissan is going to release a US version, maybe as an Infiniti....I wish they would bring it over, but I think they feel like the whole SUV craze has killed the demand for affordable performance cars.
Sorry, I know this isn't a conclusive answer, but I drove one in Japan several years ago and your question brought back good memories....

no longer all Skylines have been/are banned. in accordance to the NHTSA internet site, January a million, 1996-June 30, 1998 form R33 Skylines are allowed importation and allowed to be federally registered pending appropriate variations. additionally, the Skyline replaced into by no skill meant to be offered outdoors of Japan. even in spite of the indisputable fact that some fashions have been released in Australia under a distinctive call. opposite to commonplace opinion, smog legality isn't the main considerable difficulty, only as a results of indisputable fact that Japan has plenty stricter smog regulations. the biggest ingredient is that the Skyline does no longer meet U.S. crash standards, neither is the glass as much as par.

There are certain guidlines that assembly lines have to abide by. The skyline doesn't fit those guidelines, so they aren't produced for, or in the United States. They aren't illeagal to own or Drive in the U.S. Just illeagal to mass produce.

Likely not. But Nissan no longer carries it in their current line, so it was probably retired.
If it was illegal, Import into the United States would be forbidden as well.

No, if it was, then if anybody was seen driving one they would be arrested. Just like white Sony PSP's aren't banned in America, but you can't buy them here. Mclarens are banned though, they're too fast for police.
