PLEASE READ! It's worth the relief.

No, pregnancy did not cause head lice. I'm sorry you have to worry with this. You can get head lice by simply trying on a hat in the store or any other over the head clothing item, that a person With lice had tried on before you. Shared combs, scarfs, sitting in a cushioned chair at the doctors office...the lice get on you and crawl towards the scalp.

Two things that you can do right now that will not harm your baby.
1. Pour rubbing alcohol on your scalp. This will sting if you have scratched raw spot on your scalp, but it will stun the little creatures making it easier too comb out. This will not replace the store bought treatment, this will not kill them, but will help get rid of most.
2. Vaseline, cover your scalp and hair with this, it will suffocate them. I don't know exactly how many days you should wear this... (I mean - if infestation is very populated you will have to repeat this) but it must be worn continuously, all day, all night.

Last; to completely get rid of them, you need to remove every (nit) egg from every hair strand. To do this use a solution of egual parts of Alcohol, Cider Vinegar, Few drops of Dish Detergent. This helps weaken the (glue) and the dish liquid makes the hair slick so the comb will move through the hair with ease.
You Do Need A Special Nit removal comb, sold same place you find the Lice shampoo.
Comb your hair throughly every day for a week to ensure you get every nit and louse.
It is imbarrising, but you really need help from a friend (they can see each strand in back where you can not and some nits have to be removed by pulling down and off of length of hair.
Remember, you could have picked up these hitch hickers ANYWHERE! restraunt, clothing store, bus, doctors office, anywhere public!
My mother is 72, never had head lice. Well, she got head lice... where we are not sure. She does not eat IN restraunts, She buys her clothes mail order. She shaved her head! I swear to you! and she wore a wig for about 12 weeks....Honest!
Wash all bedding in HOT water and HOT dryer. If you can not wash it Bag it air tight leave bagged for 30 days. Thats IT. good luck with this...

pregnancy didnt cause it... being around someone or thier belongings that have lice did.
You can suffocate the bugs by drenching your head with mayo or oil and putting a bag over it for at least an hour. This will not kill the eggs i dont think... but a lice comb can help comb them out.
You will have to use the lice spray or something on ALL your furniture and beds where they can be passed back to you again or someone else.
Anyone around your most likely can get them or has them because they are so easily spread.
ALL BEDDING, CLOTHING NEEDS REWASHED IN HOT WATER OR NEEDS PLACED IN AN AIR TIGHT CONTAINER TIL THEY ARE SUFFOCATED (a week should do in air tight bag) OR YOU WILL BE REINFECTED.
Most people have a very difficult time ridding of them because they don't treat the ENTIRE home. Pretty much anything fabric a lice can hide in. I actually bombed my house with bug bombs when my kids brought it home just for safe measures.... it was the one and only flare up and we were never re-infected.

Your best best is to see a doctor in proper ways of getting rid of it. I have seen reports that even the RID shampoo is no longer effective because lice are now immune to it. By the way, you can get head lice from anywhere, wehter it be a place where you left a coat and it was next to someone's with lice. Even being in a doctor's office or anywhere for that matter and putting your head on a chair that someone else sat in that had lice. I highly doubt that it is caused from being pregnant alone, buth then again I am sure stranger things have happened.

Ask your doctor. You can't just let yourself have head lice, untreated. You may be able to use the usual lice treatment kits safely, because they don't go into your system much and I bet they are safe even while pregnant. But do check with your doctor or with the pharmacist (not an assistant) at the drugstore. They will help you find something safe and effective.

The pregnancy did not cause head lice; coming in contact with a louse or its eggs did. Anyone can get them -- don't feel guilty. My super-clean daughter once got them from wearing the baseball cap of a friend who had lice and then they got on her :-(

Try shaving cream. I know it sounds weird, but it really works. You put shaving cream in your hair and then let it sit for thirty mins. after that you rinse and then condition. The shaving cream smothers them. You also must get a nit comb and comb out all of the nits. This is the worst part especially if you have long or thick hair. Make sure you remember to vacumn and clean all of your bedding even vacumn your couch or you will end up with the little critters again. I used this approach after getting it and the chemical stuff didnt even seem to daze them. It is also less expensive. Good Luck

Head lice is most common is children but it can happen. Nixx i think is the brand, but I WOULD NOT USE IT. Unless you talk to your health care professional, Chemicals can get absorbed in the scalp and lead into the bloodstream, I learned this when I was reserching online about dying my hair. I had head lice when i was in 2nd grade, and its not due to lack of cleanliness, it just happens. The head lice removal treatment works like hair dye so I wouldnt go using it, definetly talk to your doctor.

Find someone who really really really loves you and get them to spend several hours picking every nit or louse out of your hair. Put all of your bedding and clothing through a very hot wash cycle. Vacuum all of your furniture and carpeting and throw out the vacuum cleaner bags. Place any stuffed toys or non-washable clothing in garbage bags, seal tightly and store for several weeks. Clean all hairbrushes and combs. Repeat at 2 week intervals until you are lice free.

Use cheap oily mayonaisse. Put on hair, put shower cap over and go to bed. Leave it on at least 8 hours. This will drown the buggers but you still have to wash all bedding and clothing, I would treat all cloth surfaces like rugs and couches with home defender bug spray and then vacuum, if you do not want to use that then vacuum like heck.

You must get someone to get the nits out of your hair.

No, you don't get head lice from being pregnant. You get head lice from other people. Have you used someones hairbrush, wore someone elses hat, used someone elses pillow, etc, etc. I would talk to your ob/gyn about what products you can use during pregnancy. good luck!

HI FIRST of all you don't get lice from being dirty. My daughter went through hell with that for years now she's 18 and it is gone. It is enbedded in your carpet. If your kid plays with barbie dolls get rid of them they get in the hair. They get it from schools that have carpet in them. They get it from neighbors that have 3 or more children. It multiplies like nothing in this world. When I lived in Alabama it was terrible. For my advice move out of that old house you are living in or get rid of the carpet. Don't use cold water in your washing machine only hot water kills them. they get in your bedding and carpet. To get rid of lice you have to get rid of everything serious proof here. My daughter was tormented with it. They get in your vacuum cleaner. If you need any advice email me.
