Why do people put rocks on their roofs?

I think a lot of the time they're white colored, but I never knew the answer...

That is one type of covering used on a flat roof. The stones are usually light in color to reflect the sun's rays and help keep the roof cooler in the summer.

Um...hmmm...never seen people put rocks on their roof.
