Of course, it's impossible to know. But things don't look too good.
Near death experiences can be recreated in the laboratory by stimulating certain parts of the brain (with TMS) and hence probably don't mean much in this regard.
Missing a particular piece of brain (due to brain damage) will wipe out the function that this piece performed, often without the person realizing this. For example, taking out a piece of your right posterior parietal lobe will make you forget that there is a left side of everything, just like it never existed.
Slow wave sleep (low frequency brain activity) is generally dreamless and people awoken from it have no idea what is going on or where they are. It takes a while to come to their senses.
If you extrapolate that to coma and death, that's it.
As a matter of fact, chances are that if you die, you are the only one to never know that you died, since there is no brain to process that fact.
Moreover, how did it feel to you when the 30 year war ended in 1648? I assume you had no feelings, since you were not born. That's probably how it will feel when you died.

As I am a spiritual person, and not religious, so I will share my perspective.
I believe we are here to experience, learn from, and share life lessons.
As we move through life, we are guided towards those who are going to teach us/we teach them/we teach each other.
Everything happens for a reason.
When we die, we fast forward through our life experiences, and relive all we have gone through. We learn, debrief and grow from it. We carry this in our souls/entities/energy.
Death is not the end; it is the entry into another classroom, of our choice.
For many people, this will seem "out there". Take a moment, and ask you inner self, what is reason we are here? You may be surprised...

From ancient days man believed life after death.Resurrectionn of Jesus ,if you believe is enough proof for life after death.Even after millons of years the remnant bones are found. The body itself is not completely destroyed.Years after death of one ,persons like grand father , a new child is born exactly looking like him.The calf immediately searches for milk. The human child cries.Dont you think some thing is carried forward always? That is some portion is transmitted through ages and defies death?.You may call it inherited. But it makes no, difference, complete death is a myth.According to most of the relgions life doesnot end with death.

No, when we die it is not over. Now i don't know if there is a heaven or hell but what i do know is that when we die, we are consumed by organism and we become part of those organisms. We become trees, birds, flies, dogs, cows, probably new people. You will not remember who you are today but you will become part of other living things, which will mean that you will live on forever.

Speak to someone who has had a near death experience.

In short, its a win, win situation; if there is an afterlife then great, if there isnt, then you will cease to exist. If the latter is the case, then dont worry about everything going black and thats it, because you wont even be aware of 'black' or darkness. In fact, you wont even be aware of nothing.
Dont worry about the hereafter, and dont let people tell you they have all the answers regarding the afterlife (religious fundamentalists)

I hear if you get embalmed and have your organs stored in pots then you live on after death, oh and you will need a few hundred thousand slaves to build you a temple to put you in when you die.

hmmm......that entirely depends on whether or not you want to perceive and/or believe things beyond this plane of existense.
The real question here is not whether or not there is an afterlife. It is more important to ask, "How does one live his or her life before they die?"
You can't worry about things that hasn't happened yet. But you can prepare yourself with what you currently have ....now.
As the Christian Bible says "Worry not about tomorrow..." Peace.

We are just dead. I dont believe in anything like that. If there was a God he would see all the mess thats down here and do something about it. why worry...when you are dead you are dead and wont feel a thing. It will be just like a deep sleep.

why do you people continually ask this question? WE are still alive, no matter what anyone says or believes, we simply do not know.
Now go to sleep, you cannot find any reasonable answers at this hour.
