Don't worry, both of my children one boy and one girl, were both very small in stature.(Still are.) They are perfectly normal. I worried for the longest and talked with the Dr. about it.. Neither one wanted to eat a lot, only during growth spurts. His answer was let them eat how they want to, just make sure they drink plenty of fluids. My son will be 11 in September. He is about 4' 3" tall and weighs 70 lbs, he can still wear size 9 pants. My daughter is going to be 8 in August. She is about 3' tall and weighs about 40 lbs. She weighed about 29 lbs her first year of school. She can still wear size 5 in shorts, but 6x in pants and I have to take the waistband up so they don't fall off of her. They were always under average on the growth chart, but their weight/height ratio was normal. My husband was very small as a child, but now is 6' 2" and weighs about 210. Me, I was small as a child and still just a little spit fire, 5' 1/4" tall and weigh about 116. If it worries you, do go to the Dr. and have everything checked out. Good luck.

My baby is 4 months old and weighs about 14 pounds. She is pretty small for her age, but her pediatrician isn't concerned. Instead of watching her weigh, the doctor watches her growth. Although she is in the 5 percentile she follows the growth curve exactly. (The doctor says "someone has to be in the 5 percent and someone has to be in the 95 percent) It's not always important how much your baby weighs, but how your baby grows and how he is growing developmentally. As long as he's doing the things he should be doing on time, I wouldn't be worried.

No, he's fine. I have a 8 month old with me for a visit. She weighs 18 lbs. She eats like crazy and is the picture of health. The mother was told she was tall and skinny for her age. But at last count she had four little chubby rolls on her legs. Your baby is fine. Just keep up with a good feeding schedule.

Only your pediatrician can tell you this. It depends on many factors, particularly the baby's birth weight and whether he was born full-term. What's most important isn't the actual weight/height, but whether he's eating enough. You should keep a diaper log to keep track of his urine and stools (frequency, color, consistency, etc) and share the information with the pediatrician. It will also be helpful to keep an eating log to track what he eats, how much, and how frequently. Best of luck.

P.S. My son was 6 lbs at birth, 6 lbs at 3 weeks, 8 lbs 14 oz at 8 weeks, and 10 lbs 12 oz at 12 weeks! Each baby grows at his/her own rate.

Actually, that's pretty big. You gave a wide range for his weight, but here are some estimates: He's between 75th and 95th percentile for weight, and around the 97th percentile for length (see sources section below). This is based on the newest growth charts--the first ones ever based on babies who are known to be well-nourished. (Previous charts were based on populations of babies with unknown nutritional status, at a time when overfeeding was considered to be good.)

wow, those are the exact dimensions of my 7 month old daughter, though she weighs a bit less being a girl, I too felt she seemed smaller but in reality our kids are very tall for their age so that disperses the weight and also the doc says if she is healthy, eating well, active ... then being slim is her body type. in fact she told me that I will be thankful when my daughter is older coz she wont have weight issues. people lay too much emphasis on the whole chubby baby thing without realizing that chubby babies are busy making fat cells and will walk, sit, crawl etc. slower than out slim kids. and to reititerate on one of the answers - all kids are different and have different body types, make sure his health is good thats all.

My son is 15 months and weighs about that much.. Its just depends on your genetics.. Like my son has two family history of lower weights working against him. As long as he's eating normally I really wouldnt worry about it.. I was worried about it too but my dr said as long as he's gaining weight at a steady rate not to worry about it..
