You are ALL WRONG -- now get this straight. The line is from Kurt Russell, as said in the movies "Backdraft" and "Captain Ron."

It was NOT that wimp Harry Connick!

I know that Harry Connick Jr. (Captain Jimmy Wilder) in Independence Day "Kick the tires and light the fires, big daddy."

I thought he also said it in Memphis Belle, but that would have been a few years earlier.

It is used by figther pilots - "From kick the tires, referring to a preflight check of the landing gear+ light the fires, referring to the ignition of the afterburners, a part of the engine which burns extra fuel for a speed boost during takeoff."
