Yes,it is true.That's nothing, either.In medieval England, a bride would be presented to her husband on the wedding night ,in front of witnesses and family members, and examined for any imperfection that a husband might object to and cause him to repuidate her.And yes, it means what you think it means.Then the next day, they'd parade the bloodstained sheets around.
