smaLLPOX

It was for smallpox. The smallpox vaccination was given in the upper arm area and was done with a doublepronged needle that pricked the skin multiple times to bring blood to the surface of the skin. In a few days a large red bump appeared that then turned into a blister filled with pus. It drained itself and then a scab formed over top. About three to four weeks after the vaccination, the scab fell off and the person was left with a scar. Smallpox was declaired 'erradicated' from the earth by the World Health Organization in 1980; however, in the USA there have been talks about making that mandatory again in case of a bioterrorism attack and was vaccine was reintroduced in 2003 for military and civillians. There is a new vaccination procedure.

I have a scar from my smallpox vaccination on my upper left arm, about 1/2" in diameter. I have a smaller scar from my second vaccination given several years later. In the US, they quit giving them to the public on a routine basis in 1972. Overseas, some countries give the BCG vaccination for TB and it leaves a smaller scar.

Yes, it's probably smallpox. Most people born after the 1970s don't have the scar because the disease is a-l-m-o-s-t wiped out world-wide, so the shot isn't really needed any more, so they never got the shot.

It's a vaccine for anti-polio and other viruses. In the 70's day they don't do it because its not proven to be an anti-virus. But now people use it for them to be immune in those viruses while they are young.

That would be the small pox vaccine. They quit giving that immunization because that disease is considered eradicated.
