Why do ppl think it's acceptable to say.. oh that's gay...?

Some guy just said in an answer that something sounded gay.. I know he did not mean homosexual and that is my point.

I am sick and tired of hearing gay being used in a derogatory manner. What if he had said... that sounded so black = a violation. That would have implied being black is bad.

And just like many prejudice ppl think black ppl are bad or less, I am sure many think being gay is bad or less BUT that is only your opinon.

We have rights and pay taxes too. We should not have to tolerate your abusive demeaning statements towards us... just as you should not have to tolerate being called derogatory names.

because so many people in society in general are trying to force homosexuality into peoples lives and homes. The intergration process has now started. Therefore as time goes on, being gay is acceped more and more. Then people start to alter their way of thinking (using the word GAY as a term related to something vulgar) like in the way you're refering .

I'm just saying they could have easily said STUPID instead of GAY, but would that have made it any better

In the area in which I live, I hear this term used by middle/high school students. From what I observe, homosexual behavior is not acceptable on most levels. As you grow older, you will notice words change in meaning and use. It will be used for a while and pass away like any clothing fad.

Come on, be a little more secure in who you are. "Gay" is a word that has many connotations. Don't take it personally. If I said, "man, that stinks", am I implying that you stink personally? No, it's a reference taken in context to the conversation. I'm sorry gay people aren't more accepted in our society, but you cannot get bent out of shape over a word. You are going to stress yourself out and get ulcers, much like Cheney would probably have a heart attack if his gay daughter got married. Just relax and enjoy life!

America's foundations rest in Judeo-Christianity, and whereas America's greatly strayed from those foundations, our underlying sets of values are still routed in Judeo-Christianity. Such as it's wrong to murder, steal, rape people, etc. And homosexuality is against the Bible. That's why it's a derogatory term.

And just remember, sticks and stones may break my bones...it's only words. Being called a mean name won't kill you.

Simmer down now, Mary. It's figurative language and our society is full of it. When I refer to something as being gay, I mean it is lame. It's exactly the same as saying something is "fat" (phat) I haven't heard any large size people making a stink about that figure of speech.

Very few people on our planet are in a position to be a positive reinforcement to others. So when you hear a negative comment you can reinforce it, ignore it, or demean it. The positive person would demean it.

Last time i checked Gay meant happy. Gay is slang for Homosexual.
