I got my first ultrasound at what I thought was my 20wk check up to find out that i was actually only 16weeks at the time. When they checked to see the sex of the baby they suggested that we were having a little girl. Is this prediction very accurate or should my husband hold off on the pink paint in the nursery??

Depending on the technician they can be completely accurate with the ages. They measure several parts of the body (a head circumfrence measurement, "crown to rump" measurement, and femur measurement, ect) to get an age.
Girls are harder to predict then boys, but a well versed person can usually give you an answer or tell you if they can't tell because of the way baby is positioned.
sooo if he wants... paint the room. Worst thing he will have to do is repaint!

Well personally speaking, all of my ultrasounds have been accurate. I do know of someone who got an ultrasound and they told she was having a boy... they were sure of it. She bought all boy clothes, painted the nursery blue and only picked out boy names. I warned to her keep an emergency girl name in mind and have one neutral outfit to take to the hospital. As it turns out she did have a girl and her mother had to go buy her an outfit to leave the hospital in. I would say that ultrasounds are very accurate, however choose a boy name and take a neutral outfit to the hospital... just in case. I would say that it's safe to paint the nursery, but keep in mind there is a slight chance you might have to repaint it. Good luck!!

I would hold off on the pink paint for a little while. When my friend was pregnant they said she was having a girl too. She had a girl baby shower and everything. Only to find out at 30 weeks that she was having a boy... It was horrible!! She had to re-do the nursery and take back EVERYTHING!!!

the 3d ones are pretty acurate but when you are past 30 weeks they are pretty much dead on....the ones that just show shadows are old and inacurate.usually the high risk pregnancies get the better ones to detect deformations i guess.but at 34 weeks i seen my little girl's face and all that is how good it was...but the ones at 20 weeks in the office were terrible.and for this pregnancy i had ultra sounds at the hospital..they were shaows, but i seen feet head hands and all...but that is about all i seen at 16 weeks.

Very accurate! The person reading it however is not always accurate. This is how the information gets messed up.

They are pretty accurate. Sometimes they do a second ultra sound a couple months later.

Generally speaking, if they say a boy they are most often right, but if they say a girl they are more likely to be wrong.
They are usually right though.

It has been known to be wrong before. Holding off is up to you.
