What I've seen happen is that they at least change the tone of voice. It's hard to explain on here, but I've definitely had times where I've talked to someone normally about an issue, in a very understanding tone, and when they tell someone else about it and say what I said, they may say it in a snotty way so it makes it look like I was totally rude. I worked with a girl who did that... I tried to call one of our vendors once, and when the girl asked me about it, she made it sound like I was totally rude to the lady, when in reality I was so nice.
