Actually I have traveled to another state to meet someone I met on the Internet, though I was already planning to vacation there before we decided to met up. Though I should pass on the words of wisdom that was given to me and I am sure you have already considered. Meet in a public place and do not let them know exactly where you will be staying. Also, do not leave your drink alone with them and try not to drink anything that will put you in a vulnerable state. It's really common sense things that should be used when you start seeing anyone you just met. The only difference is you will be in their territory and a bit more vulnerable so use a little more caution. I must say that I lucked out in mine and met a wonderful man, but I have heard many horror stories from friends so please use caution.

I met my husband online and we lived in different states at the time. I ended up going back to his state for family reasons and we decided to meet up. At the time, we'd known each other for 6 years. We've now been together for 2 1/2 years and are very happy together.

With that said, definitely don't meet someone you JUST started talking to - make sure you've "known" them for a while before meeting them. This includes not only chatting online, but on the phone and such. When it comes to actually meeting, make sure it's in a well-lit, public place. Don't drink (alcohol) and don't let the drink out of your sight. Have a friend check in with you every so often by phone. Make it a short meeting.

And by all means, be careful. Make sure people know where you're going.

I just drove this weekend to another state to meet a girl I met on the internet.

I think the guy should make the effort first. Also, we've been talking on the phone for the last month or two.

Then do meet in a public place, and make sure there's an understanding that it is a short date, not a full day.
