Hi there,

There are many different ways for you to obtain permanent residence in Australia, including skilled (independent, family sponsored, state sponsored and employer sponsored) and family (spouse, parent, child) visas.

If you are highly skilled you may be able to apply for one of the skilled visas. Generally you will need a university / college / trade qualification as well as some post-qualification work experience, however, the requirements for each occupation vary.

Another option is to go to Australia on a student visa and after completing a qualification (at least 2 years in duration) apply for residence.

If you send me a more detailed description of your situation I would be happy to provide an assessment of your eligibility.

It is not that easy and depends on what country you are from. If you are from East Timor at the moment you chances are good. However if you are for example the UK, you will need to have a skill that is on the skills shortage list and have been doing that trade for at least 4 years and have all the relevant qualifications for the trade. There are lots of ways you can get in, none are easy, and all are time consuming, Visit www.immi.gov.au and you will find all the information that you need.
