I befriended a tenant in my building one day (small talk) in the laundry room and saw her from time to time. I really do not want anything to do with her anymore. She askes to borrow money because she is always short but has money for cigarettes and booze???? I suspect she is an alcoholic because I smell it on her breath everytime we speak. She is now knocking on my door upwards to 3 times a day and I just wish she would go away. I am tired of giving excuses i.e. I am tired, I was napping, I am cooking. What can I say to her to leave me alone respectively of course.

Just be truthful (but tactful if possible) with her. Tell her that although you enjoyed chatting with her in the Laundry room and that you don't mind if she stops by on occasion that she is intruding on your time by stopping by 3x's a day. Tell her that you really don't want to be rude but that you would just rather she backed off. I would also tell her that one of the main reasons is that you are tired of her begging money all the time especially for booze and cigs. Good Luck

If you have ever given her money, she will probably continue trying in hopes you will again. This is especially true if she's addicted. Unfortunately, it might take a lot of turn-downs before she gives up. I hope you are very clear with her about not being able to give her money - you don't have to justify why.

Also, if you keep telling her why you aren't available in the moment, she's going to come back later in hopes that you will then be available. You could suggest a day and time that would work for you, to let her know that she shouldn't try to get with you sooner.

I would follow through on getting together with her, but make sure you initiate it by knocking on her door or suggesting a neutral place. It's much easier to leave than it is to get her to leave your place. Of course, if she keeps trying to get money from you, you have very good justification to tell her "no thanks" to the relationship. Having someone not respect your basic rights is way out-of-line.

Next time she knocks open the door and say....I don't mean to be rude and while it was nice the other day when we talked but every day I've got so much going on I really don't have time to visit. Then when she knocks don't answer the door and if she catches you outside just speak and then say I'm sorry I gotta go. Do this each and every time you see her and she'll get the hint and go away. I'm probably a wuss but I can't be in-your-face rude to people.

Get a restraining order put on her or have a sign posted on your front door that says "Beware of viscious dogs who attack annoying neighbors that knock on my door 3x's a day".. That should scare her away.. or you could do the bluntly honest thing and simply tell her "To leave you the hell alone"..

I think you have to do something to get her mad at you. Try preemptive knocking on her door at 2 am a couple of days and talk to her about stupid stuff like she is. Hopefully she'll get the hint, otherwise get mad about something in her apartment, like if she has styrofoam stuff you can pretend to be a crazy environmentalist. Or if she is like most non-christians try witnessing to her about Jesus everytime she comes over. That will drive her away instantly.

Call the police about the booze and tell her nicely, but firmly that if she wants to visit you she needs to call you and make plans ahead of time. Say that's your rule with visitors, even next door neighbors. If she keeps bothering you, call the police about harassment.

Its really difficult to have a exact solution for this.
For now I suggest you one: Just after finishing reading of this...knock on her door & ask for some money. Say her you need badly...request her. I am sure she won;t have much money...ask for her 100 bucks...even she gives you 5 bucks at the end...do never think her to repay it. hummm...this will give you relief for at least 2 months.
Try out!

I had a neighbor that used to do that. Until one day she caught me in a really bad mood. After that she kept her distance and I had no problem with that. My nerves could only take so much of her.

lay out a big black plastic tarp in your living room and when she comes by answer the door in your swimsuit with a bottle of baby oil and say "you 30 seconds get undressed then we are wrestling".
