Diamonds are found in a mineral called "Kimberlite". Kimberlite is found in a formation called a pipe. Kimberlite pipes are the result of explosive diatreme volcanism from very deep mantle derived sources. These volcanic explosions produce vertical columns of rock that rise from deep magma reservoirs. The morphology of kimberlite pipes are varied but generally include a sheeted dyke complex of tabular, vertically dipping feeder dykes in the root of the pipe which extend down to the mantle. Within 1.5-2 km of the surface the highly pressured magma explodes upwards and expands to form a conical to cylindrical diatreme, which erupts to surface. The surface expression is rarely preserved but is usually similar to a maar volcano. The diameter of a kimberlite pipe at the surface is typically a few hundred meters to a kilometer.
Near Murfreesboro, Arkansas, from what is now known to be a lamproite pipe, more than 100,000 stones averaging 0.25 carat each were produced between 1907 and 1933. Now Crater of Diamonds State Park, the locality is a stop for hobbyists and tourists. The "State Line Kimberlite District" along the Colorado-Wyoming border is home to the only operating diamond mine in the U.S., started at Kelsey Lake, Colorado, in June 1996. The largest diamond found so far is 28.3 carats, and about 25% of the 20,000-carat annual production is of gem quality.

Murfreesboro. its in the southwest part of the state. But don't expect to find many diamonds. its been picked through for decades now. I've even heard that alot of the diamonds found now days are planted there to keep the tourism around.

Follow Cleetus' pick up truck. When he stops, start digging.
If he stops in the middle of the road, he's picking up roadkill.
