Pain is there naturally to protect you from further injuring your leg. It's natures way to keep you quieted down so the healing can take place. Take some pain relievers, aspirin, tylenol. Try to relax, maybe a glass of wine if you're old enough.

you could also take an NSAID (such as ibuprofen, asprin, aleve . . . to help reduce the inflamation) and something such as Tylenol for the pain -- although, reducing inflamation may very well reduce the pain you're experiencing.

Rice: rest, ice, compression, elevation. Do that for 1 hour, then heat for 1 hour. Alternate the two for a few days. Should get rid of pain and swelling. (this works if it is a soft tissue injury; ie sprain, strain, twist)

For bruising, heat and compression.
