First, try to understand where the interviewer is coming from. Ask what in particular is the interviewer trying to understand. You can then frame the answer according to the specific concern of the interviewer. By doing so, you just don't keep on blabbering about irrelevant details of your life.
You can also start by talking about how your career path and goals has led you to your application in the particular job.
