Okay, more details: Your answer depends on what you think spirituality is, but I believe that spirituality is a feeling of inner peace despite a storm of raging events, emotions, and thoughts. Basically I'm asking if you think that inner peace comes from a better relationship with yourself, or from a better relationship with a God or Gods (depending on your particular beliefs)

That is a truly great question. Just about the best I've seen on here. Naturally there is no answer - or rather, there's one for each person.

As I have studied in depth the religion of the plains indian, especially the sun dance and the way of the Lakota, I've become very spiritual and very anti-organized religion. Just some thought for you..

it's both. one must build their spirituality to gain a greater inner peace. in the process of doing this, many try to connect to a "higher power" or a central power. some believe that one can't build spirituality without God because God is your spirituality. i believe the two are separate yet work together

If man's spirit is the only spirit you believe in, then your inner peace will be based on a corrupt ideal.

If you believe in several gods, then your inner peace will be a balancing game of trying to live your own life the way you want while trying to live up to the "higher powers" (all of which disagree with each other), resulting in a empty religious life filled with guilt trips coming at you from all sides.

Inner Peace comes not from Religion (it's the other way around), but rather is a gift, undeserved, presented to us freely and in love. When the Scriptures refer to the One God, they refer to Him as a Spirit. They are also very clear that every man and woman is also a spirit-being. We are not gods, we are imperfect! We must acknowledge our fallen state and present our lives as daily living sacrifices to God.

By giving ourselves up for Him to use, we are no longer focused on ourselves but on the Perfect One who gave Himself for us - and in turn, He fills us with His Spirit, Himself. The result of the Spirit of God dwelling with our spirit naturally brings about Inner Peace, but a selfish motive will get you nowhere.

that yourself which you want to be in relationship with are God. That would sound as a highest blasphemy regarding to existing beliefs.Spirituality , eventually, confirming that all existing beliefs is not necessarily to be true, yet, may lead to the Truth of yourself and God.That Self which you looking for is covered with countless of ego created selves called personalities.Sum total of created selves determine "persona", citadel, safe heaven for its master named ego. Ego is sense of identification with what you think you are. That what you think based on your beliefs which is far from what actually is.
