In human females, the primary oocytes remain arrested in prophase I for much of an individual’s life. How many mature ova will arise from each primary oocyte when meiosis is complete?

One. During the process of meiosis the primary oocyte will undergo 2 distinct divisions interkinesis I and cytokinesis II. At the end of cytokinesis II one viable cell is left and 3 structures, that die off, called polar bodies. If the egg is fertilized it will live and develop, if not it will be reabsorbed or gotten rid of by the body.

one. The other oocytes are supportive and apoptose when the mature ovum is released (Kind of like in certain ancient cultures, when the queen died, all her servants committed suicide...I don't recommend it ;-)
