Love anime
The character development, Art, and relatable characters. also, for some animes, having true villan or hero.
in a way I can learn (not much) about japan.
How war animes are about WAR, and they give you both sides of the story.
Oh and how you can take some of the philosophy from certain animes and apply them to your own life.
ie. Ryoko Tenchi Universe : Its like a carnival, and it comes and goes but you must always remember that this carnival will come back to you. Always.

I have to laugh at the Matrix guy. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
What does he think they based the movie on? DUH!
And what is the ANIMAtrix. Though not spelled the same, I'm sure it gets the point across.
Anyhow, I like anime because it's helped me through some tough times in my life and saved me thousands of dollars in therapy.
It lets your imagination soar almost as much as reading a book.
And, up until recently, I would have said that people who like anime tended to be a smarter group of people.
I'm not saying people that don't like it are stupid, not at all, but there was a time when only people with a certain level of intelligence enjoyed anime.
Now, with the introduction of anime through You Tube, Hot Topic, and Cartoon Network we are now forced to deal with the pirate generation of preteen fan-girls glomping people on the street.
Can't we go back to the old days where you had to track down anime to watch it? The access is cool now, but my fondest memory is of going door to door on my street begging for money and doing odd jobs just so I could pick up a VHS copy of AKIRA.
Ah, those were the days.
Luckily, you can tell the real fans from what they first mention as their favorite animes.
If they can only name something that's been on cartoon network since the invention of Adult Swim, then they aren't hard core.
Gunslinger Girl is still the best thing I've seen on DVD, followed closely by Haunted Junction.
You Tube really needs to regulate the whole anime thing though, its one of the reasons it costs so much in the first place.
Why would a studio spend all that money dubbing and remastering something for the US, if it was only going to be uploaded and watched for free on the Internet.
They aren't bringing that stuff over out of the kindness of their hearts, but out of the hunger in their wallets.
If this pirating keeps up, nobody will want to bring any more anime over. Some people may not think that is such a bad idea, since dubs suck, or they don't like anime, whatever.
There are some studios out there that are getting pretty good, and even a few where the English dub is better than the Japanese version.
If companies stop purchasing anime titles, then the only way to purchase will be through imports, and if that's the only option we're screwed if there's some world war and other countries refuse to send anything to us.
I like anime for what it is artistically, but I don't like what people are turning it into. Like it for what it truly is. Not some stereotype.
And don't' hate it just because "It's Cartoons"
Ya know what? So is Family Guy, Futurama, The SImpsons,ATHF, and many of the other TV shows that are top rated in the US.
Sorry for ranting, but yes, I like anime because it played a huge part in shaping what i am today.

I love anime and have since the mid 1970's *Speed Racer, Battle of the Planets, anyone?*
I love the art direction. For example, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle Princess Mononoke were so beautifully drawn, it's easy to forget you're watching a "cartoon". I also love how realistic the story's are. I DARE anyone to watch "Graveyard of Fireflies" and not be crying their eyes out by the end

I love anime, I just don't like the "Americanized" TV versions. They cut out a lot of it, so sometimes the stories end up making no sense at all. I see the trailers on other vids that I already have, but I am hard pressed to find them.

I love anime! I don't care what anyone says about me for loving it. I guess some people don't like it cause they don't take the time to appreciate how much work and thought goes into making the art. I love the mangas and the anime. My fav anime is Naruto and Inuyasha. ^-^

I like how dynamic characters can be and how their feelings are so overly expressed. It kind of brings you into an alternate reality that other cartoons don't. Also the art seems so well done compared to our cartoons.

Japanophilia has shaped the U.S., indeed.
Not that I'm refuting anime's greatness in its many
lovely attributes.
I prefer manhwa/manga, though.
Most (not all) anime has spawned from the illustrated books.
And most of all, dubs in the American versions make me cringe.

what's great about anime, is that there's soo many unique story lines and genres out there. each carry a message that viewers can take at heart. and they create characters, that real people can relate to. that's what makes anime soo great. and not this cartoon network bs where they edit to make it "viewable" for kids. they messed up naruto, they will mess up bleach. america can suck balls for editing great anime.
