1. Before you go...
WAIT TO WAX hair at least 1/8 inch long, If it's too short, it will be hard to pull out-- so the process will hurt more and take longer.
CHOOSE THE SHAPE that's right for you.
Standard bikini : only the hairs that grow outside of your panty lines are removed.
Brazilian: All hair is removed except sometimes for a small triangle above the labia (vaginal lips).
TAKE TWO ADVIL since it's normal for the skin to get swollen and feel sensitive (sting) after waxing. Anti-inflammatory can minimize this effect (plus any pain you feel during the wax).
>>> TIP
Always choose a reputable, safe and clean salon. And ask for recommendations on who should perform the procedure.
2. During the process...
WEAR BIKINI-STYLE UNDIES that you don't mind getting wax on, or ask the salon for a pair of disposable panties.
DON'T BE SURPRISED if your aesthetician ask you to lift your leg to your chest or rest your ankle on her shoulder -- it helps her get access to your bikini area from a better angle.
TAKE A DEEP BREATH before the aesthetican pulls off the wax, then exhale as she rips off the hair -- you'll feel less of a sting since you'll be focused on your breathing.
>>>TIP
When the aesthetician is done, look down at your bikini line to make sure that the amount of hair left is equal on both sides. If it's not, ask her to take off more where you think it's needed.
If it's that time of the month or a week before, skip waxing. Your hormones make your more sensitive to pain. Ouch!

Try and have it done when you're not having your period, or a few days before and after, as these times are when you're most sensitive, which can decrease you pain threshold. Also, ask the therapist to apply an ice-pack on the area to be waxed for 1/2 minute or so to help reduce the pain. Make sure you trim your pubic hair (or ask the therapist to do so) to roughly 0.5-1cm length before waxing, as short hair sticks better, thus better results and less pain.
Doing a brazilian wax is certainly worth the trouble from a personal view. It's more hygienic this way. Remember that straight after a wax, the area may remain sensitive for a day or 2, so wear light cotton undies to and from the salon, and make sure you exfoliate and apply moisturizer to the area everyday to prevent ingrown hair and to keep the area supple.
Good luck.

First, you take ibuprofen a couple hours before the appointment. That will help with not only pain, but inflammation as well. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Bring a favorite pillow or something small with you that may be good to bite down on. Seriously. Check all nervousness and modesty at the door. Try not to tense up before the muslin strip is pulled. Most importantly, find someone who can do this service really well. You'd be surprised how many perform waxing procedures incorrectly, thus making it more painful for their customers. Good Luck!
