Another good question!
I found out about this one in a roundabout way in my researching trauma survivors...
People become obsessed with perfection -all cases, to varying degrees, because they are AFRAID OF FAILURE.
Remove the possibility of failing (whatever their criteria of this might be, and THAT is where the effort and work comes in in figuring this part out) and you suddenly have someone who is ok with what they are doing and themselves AND the people around them. A vicious cycle!
I.E...
Failure = judgment =criticism =lower self-esteem =going to fail again=
Failure = judgment =criticism =lower self-esteem =going to fail again=
Failure = judgment =criticism =lower self-esteem =going to fail again=
Failure = judgment =criticism =lower self-esteem =going to fail again=
Failure = ....
They call that a negative spiral; catch-22; self-fulfilling propecy/myth; self-sabotage... and this applies to "What is the true power of positive thinking".. *Wink*
Plus if we are perfectionists, we never have to really DO it, never have to really TRY. There are a LOT of hidden self-sabotaging perfectionists out there who are too afraid of failing to even begin to try something they would love to do...
-With positive thinking the vicitm in this cycle can overcome it and reverse from an inward turning paradigm into an expansive new-posibilities in the universe situation, not only for themselves, but in self-acceptance and love and appreciation for everyone and everything...
=Self-Love.
Now if I could have figured out how to get my ex-GF to understand that for herself we might still be together.

I think sometimes people are obsessed with the need for perfection because they were raised by people who expected perfection of them. Obviously, since no one is perfect, this can cause the person to believe themselves a failure since they can never produce what is expected of them. And in turn this affects their self esteem and confidence. Also I have found some protestant denominations that are very legalistic and this can cause people to feel like failures in the eyes of God because they can't reach perfection no matter how hard they try. They become guilt ridden and expect the impossible of themselves.

First, purely to get it out of ways, it is "hypocrisy", "therapist" and "autopsies" no longer "hypocracy", "therepist" or "ortopsy's". 2d, how is your obsession with darkness, lack of existence and the macabre going to disappoint us? Why ought to we care? third and extremely last, your obsession is in accordance with drama. This subculture of ours has made lack of existence, darkness and so on. dramatic and thrilling. that's extremely genuine of Christian subculture. Christians have continuously had a morbid fascination with lack of existence, bloodshed, darkness, evil and so on. it is area of tens of millions of sermons and the numerous element of any common preacher's lexicon, alongside with such issues as "sin" and "salvation". that you, as a self-defined non secular Christian ought to have an interest by those products might want to be no wonder to everybody quite once you're reading, reciting and reading scriptures almost ever day that are SATURATED with the form of stuff. So there is your rationalization. Did you've any actual questions?

Because underneath they feel insecure and imperfect. They feel the need to always try to make things better and nothing ever seems good enough. Therefore as hard as they try to make things perfect nothing ever is.

childhood experiences influence one's psychological behavior.
According to Freud's psychosexual development:
....when gratification does not occur during the "anal stage" (which is characterized by the child deriving pleasure from bowel movements. when the child discovers the pleasure which comes from the exercise of power.), fixation at this stage occurs. He/she tends to become extremely neat, organized, careful, meticulous, and obstinate.

People want to do things to their best possible outcome. I sure do. Why do it halfway? You'll just have to fix it later. Do it right the first time and you won't have to redo it later.
