I have a five month old, he will never sleep more than three hours in a row and has certainly never slept 7 hours in a row. He has not been taking a bottle at night since he was 2 months old so I can't figure out why he will not sleep a full night. It's like all he needs is 3 hours to rested and then he is ready to get up and play again. I do rock him to sleep at night, that seems to be the only way to get him to go to sleep. All of my friends children sleep 7 to 8 hours at night and I would give my left leg to get even 6 hours uninterrupted sleep. Any advice on better sleeping habits? Is there something that I'm not doing causing him to be this way?

Maybe he is OVERTIRED. Try limiting his daytime naps to only an 1 1/2 hrs in the morning & afternoon. DONT let him nap after 3pm. Tire him out by playing with him. Give him a bath before bed. He could just be over stimulated.

If that don't work try something else. Ask the nurses at your doctors office. See if they can give you any advice on this one!

To the woman wit the restless baby!!!
R U nursing and R U drinking caffeine???
If not try a betta night time rutine such as no night lights and play special music everytime its time to go to sleep!!!
This music must be the same soothing music everytime so tat the baby will begin to associate this music wit sleeping time, if the baby wakes in the night and won't take a bottle keep the lights off and give him a while 2 go bk 2 sleep!!!

Other Tips
1.)ALL BABIES GO THROUGH GROWTH SPURTS!! so even if he hasn't been hungry in the past he may need extra food for this special time of rapid growth this should only last a short season.

2.) If ur baby only knows how to go to sleep by being rocked then everytime he wakes up he will want U to rock him bk to sleep again!!! Try laying him down 4 naps while he is very sleepy while he is still awake!!! Maybe try rubbing his bk to make sure he is nice and calm!!!

3.) Some babies R easily stimulated meaning tat lights and loud voices mak them want 2 get very playful try turning down the lights an hr. B4 bed time to create a soothing atmosphere!!!

my son didnt start sleeping 6 hours straight till he was 7 months old. My pediatrician told me that my rocking him to sleep was actually making it harder for him to sleep through the night (when he woke up in the middle of the night he didnt know how to fall back asleep without me coming in and rocking him)
As long as you know he is safe, not hungry, not wet etc. it is okay to let him cry. What i did was put him in his crib ( same time every night after bath and a story) still awake but obviously tired. I let him cry for 7 minutes, went and picked him up, no rocking no lights no singing just held him till he cried, then put him back down. Left the room, he cried and i went back in after 10 minutes did the same thing. I kept increaseing the time, but never let it go longer than 20 minutes.
Four nights I got little to no sleep, but it got easier and easier by the fifth night he slept 6 hours straight (good enough for me)
I know its hard to ignore your baby's cry, for me I had to focus on the fact that it really was best for him, you are not doing him a favor allowing his sleep to be dependant on you
GOOD LUCK!

when my baby was 5 months old, she took nap 3 times a day. each around 1-2 hours. she went to bed at 9pm and woke up the next morning at 7am. she woke up at around 2/3 in the morning for a bottle. everything went wonderful.

so i guess, 1st, your baby must be hungry thus he can't sleep soundly.
2nd, how frequent your baby sleeps in the day time? don't let him sleep too much on day time. cut down his sleeping hours.
play with him and talk to him. let him have a busy day!
he must be exhausted! thus he not only fall asleep fast but also sleep soundly throughout the night.
you may consider trying this,,,,
hope this helps. good luck!

why would you take a baby off the bottle at such a young age?2 months is way to young to do that. the baby is probably still hungry so try giving him some pablum or play some music for him when he goes to sleep other then that i would talk to your dr. see what he/she says good luck

If at all possible, try no to let him take naps in the afternoon.
