she also thinks im cheating and now she routinely checks the history to keep tabs on me..i dont want to be on egg shells,so i have to find out{how to clear the history on my computer,when im done using it?}

clear your history..... simple as that... even better instead of having to clear it everytime you get off the computer... you can set Internet Explorer to clear the history when you Close Internet Explorer...

open Internet Explorer and then click on the Tools menu >>> then click on Internet Options >>>> then click on the Advanced Tab >>> then look for the option that says .. "clean history when closing internet explorer"... or something very close to that...

if for any reason you can't find that option... you can manually clear the history by clicking on Tools menu >>>> then click on Internet Options >>>> then click on the Generals tab then....

Delete Internet Explorer History

In Internet Explorer, follow these steps to erase your browsing history from the "history" window

1. Make the following sequence of menu choices: Tools -> Options -> Internet Options -> General

2. Click "Delete Files," then "OK."

3. Click "Delete Cookies," then "OK."

4. Click "Clear History," then "Yes."

Delete Netscape or Mozilla History

In Netscape or Mozilla, follow these steps:

1. Make the following sequence of menu choices: Edit -> Preferences -> History

LOL Ok first opinion and its easier said than done! Move on! If you've done nothing other than enter a chat room to insight your girlfriends insecurety then, my friend, I can only assure you it's going to get worse from here!!! Better to get out now that spend all of your time defending actions that don't need to be defended only to wind up miserable in the end.

Second, talk to her! Sit her down and tell her you are dating, not married and that it is within your rights as an adult to chat in a chat room if you feel the desire to do so! Ask her for her concerns and listen to her! If she has other reasons to think your cheating hash them out but let her know you care about her opinion!

Third, if you just cant do that! Its going to depend on who your service provider is! If you have AOL, change your password and don't let her on under your name!!! Netscape has a little erasor looking icon in the tool bar, when this drops down there is an option to "Erase my tracks now" and you can check on an option to Erase your tracks upon exit every time. If you use Explorer then you need to go under Tools then to internet options and Erase everything.

But let me give you some warning from someone who knows!! LOL My best friend went through this with his wife and she was apparently smarter than she appeared! First she questioned why there was nolonger anything in his history and she knew he was erasing things, which lead to even more speculation and doubt! Second, she knew how to check the history from his Cache files, even the ones he deleted! Better to go with the first two options and save yourself the trouble!!!!

since your gf knows that you visit the chat rooms, then you are already screwed, because if you start clearing the history etc. (and it is indeed possible to do so) that will even look more suspicious!!! don't know much about it, but there must be something out there that lets you chat w/ ppl without leaving a record

Periodically "Clear" history. Go to preference (security) and empty "cache" and delete all cookies. Close out (quit) web browser. This is a good idea for your own security... not just to keep your girlfriend happy.

On Mac Tiger 10.4., use SAFARI Browser and under Safari pull down menu select "Reset Safari" to clean everything out.
