the driveway leads to the drive (from your house to the street), parkway leads to the park...someone asked this question last week

The name "driveway" is based on what you can do with your car on your property and where. On the driveway instead of inside the house or the yard. The name "parkway" is based on what you are driving past in a city, namely, a park. Many times there isn't a park, but it's the city's way of making you think it's a nice drive.

A parkway has a place to park to enjoy the scenery or whatever else you find to do in the car.
The driveway is so called, to differentiate it from the walkway.
