No, Jim Morrison was not a genius. When I was younger I went through a time when I was totally into the doors. I read that Danny Sugarman biography about five times and I listened, REALLY listened to as much of their music as I could. I also got into An American Prayer. I thought that was really something.
After a while, though, I agreed with John Densmore that Jim was self-destructive, and it was sad to read about that. There was so much potential there. And yet, what would it have been had Morrison lived? Would he have gone to rehab and done Vegas? Or would he have retired to a life of relative obscurity and eccentricity like Syd Barrett (Pink Floyd's original singer and lyricist who recently passed away at 60)?
Morrison was talented, no doubt about that, and many current musicians owe him a debt. Without his onstage antics there'd be no Madonna or Rick James or Prince. Poetry? Morrison did it first, before Jewel, before Billy Corgan.
His love songs are quite tender and hold up over time: Touch Me, Hello I Love You, Light My Fire. I enjoy listening to Soul Kitchen for its phrasing. Definitely some good stuff there.
Incidentally, "...his brain is SQUIRMING like a toad..." I should probably correct you on a few of the other lyrics but ... I'll leave that to the other answerers.
Thanks for the question.

I think there was a time when he was a conduit for creative change... some call that genius. I also think the extended abuse of the drugs muddied that conduit to the point that he became a sad caricature of inspired freedom of thought and action.
Many things can open a doorway through which you can see 'the light' (drugs included), but the ultimate truth is that you must make your way back to that door with a clear mind and intent to be able to step through it! Very few of the 60's 'gurus' made that connection or honestly attempted the journey.... Most just fell into self-indulgence.

yes jimmy was a bit under the influence when he wrote that stuff (no doubt!!) i think he's overrated as a genius. perhaps the fact that he died so young in the manner that he did in the time period that he did, helps to fuel this idea of "jimmy the genius". i remember years ago, i stayed up late to watch the movie, THE DOORS. i was young and knew little about the group except for all the hype i heard about jim morrison and his legendary fame. i watched that movie and i was so disappointed. he just appeared to be a strung out rock star who happened to be lucky to be famous. maybe i'm wrong. i just don't get jimmy. as another famous drugged up jimmy once said, "'scuse me while i kiss the sky!" (jimmy hendrix). i love that line!! now there was a musical genius!

~Creative yes - genius, no. Jimmy was a poet long before he was strung out on smack. Once Robbie convinced him to front the group, he could afford the drugs. His poetry probably suffered as a result. His "success" killed him. Let's whip the horse's eyes until he bleeds - and dies. This is the end.

it must be the form of door or the stall he would not like. If the stall is smaller or he can no longer see out as properly. attempt only using a stall shield it somewhat is mesh and notice if he's larger. Or make the door precisely like the previous one so he feels greater mushy.

i think there is a place you can reach out of bounds of regular human conciousness.....a collective unconcious...if you will. a place where ideas circulate and group together and scatter as quickly as they meet. if you can catch one...it is as an exquisit fire fly in your hand and must be held up to light the path of ourselves and others.
