It depends on the quality and format of video:
for DVD-video approx. 3 gigs for good quality video.

Quality is the a collective of many video attributes:
frames per second, bitrate ... the higher these are the more gigs you get.

From DV ( like a digital video camera ) it could be upwards of 20 gig.

But on the other hand for PSP (playstation portable video) it may only be 200 megabytes per hour.

If you are doing video editing, allow yourself at least 3GB of space for every hour of video. The exact answer depends on the resolution of the video and presence of audio. An hour of COMPRESSED audio and video will be less than 1GB.

it depends on the quality of movie and the that is dependent on the file format used to store it, resolution of movie and such other factors. Standard DVD quality movie will take approximately 2GB, MPEG will be approximately 700MB
