Weight loss is fine in the first trimester of pregnancy, as long as one is not purposely trying to lose weight. Dieting whilst pregnant is never a good idea, and almost always leads to unwanted consequences on the baby.

This being said however, a lot of women do lose weight in the first trimester. This can be caused by a number of things. Firstly, the woman may feel to nauseas or ill to want to eat, or she has trouble keeping food down. If this is the case for you, you might want to see a doctor about taking a Vitamin B6 supplement, as was recommended to me when I had severe morning sickness. Many women who are deficient in Vitamin B6 have bad morning sickness.

When I was in the first trimester of my pregnancy, I lost 3 kilograms. My doctor wasn't worried.

The weight loss in the first trimester may also be caused by a positive change in your eating habits. Have you cut fast foods, chips, chocolate and fizzy drinks out of your diet? All of these things have a lot of calories in them, and if you are no longer consuming them, your body is no longer getting the unneeded calories that they provide.

Also, have you been drinking more water than usual? A pregnant woman must drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, this will often make her feel full.

The reason why it is OK to lose weight through the above mentioned means in early pregnancy, is that the placenta isn't fully functioning yet. This means that the embryo (baby) is sustained by the levels of hormones in your body, rather than being nourished by the nutrients in your diet. After the first three months of pregnancy, it becomes even more important that one consumes the recommended daily intake of each food group.

If you are still concerned, I would advise you to give your OB/GYN a call and discuss these concerns with him or her. Hopefully they will be able to calm your nerves.

I'm going to include the link to a pregnancy forum that I think you might find useful. It's full of supportive women with boundless knowledge about these issues. I learnt so much there that I doubt I would have learnt otherwise.

I understand how stressful that can be. I am 7 weeks pregnant, and have really been sick the past week. I have lost almost 9 pounds in the last few days because i have been feeling very sick. After calling the health hotline, i got some good advice. Experiencing nausea, and food aversions is normal, if you are losing weight at a steady pace, not suddenly, just from eating less then it is probably ok. Just bring it up to your doctor at the next visit. If however, you have lost weight suddenly, have stomach cramps, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or any other symptoms of sickness, visit your doctor or clinic as soon as possible. Hope this helps. Email me if you want to talk to someone who's in the same boat as you.

If you started out at a normal weight and gained the 25-35 pounds your doctor probably recommended, it shouldn't take you more than a couple of months to get back to your pre-pregnancy weight if you watch what you eat and exercise.

If, on the other hand, you were overweight before your pregnancy or you put on more weight than your doctor advised, it could take much longer -- up to a year -- to get the weight off. Any baby weight you don't take off could stick with you for a long time.

If you have been getting morning sickness it is normal to loose weight. As if you were sick you would loose weight. Trust me it will come back on the weight once you can eat well again.
If your sickness is so bad that you are not keeping anything down it is important to see your doctor. You could also research morning sickness helpers on the net. Midwives are also great for advice.
Most babies do fine even if the mother isn't feeling so crash hot.
Although if you are trying to loose weight and are pregnant this is a worry see a doctor and tell them all that is happening.

It's morning sickness, or just not wanting to eat. Your OB would have a better idea how you're doing. But if you aren't gaining weight by your second trimester, I'd say something's wrong.

I misplaced thirteen lbs in 6 weeks in the course of my first three months of being pregnant since I used to be throwing up three or four occasions an afternoon. I'm now five.five months and feature formally received again 12 pf the thirteen lbs, so I'm more often than not again to my pre-being pregnant weight now. My surgeon advised me that every one I used to be wasting used to be water (your frame is eighty% water) and he or she advised me that there's no correlation among SEVERE being pregnant nausea and any type of start defects. So do not fear, your little one will get the whole lot they want from you! Take your pre-natals and check out to get in as a lot water as feasible! Good Luck!

talk to your doc if you are concerned. In the meantime, relax. The baby is still getting what it needs to keep growing, and you will have less baby weight to lose after the birth than most others!
