Edna-if she isn't insane, then I don't know what is

I'm sorry, but so far no one has even come close to the actual definition, and some have given it a shot and completely missed the mark.

first off, "insanity" is not a word used in the mental health profession. Period. You will not find it in the DSM (reference book of mental disorders). No doctor, psychologist, or counselor will diagnose you "insane".

The old, inaccurate, and overused A. Einstein quote regarding doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results had nothing to do with psychology, but was Einstein just making social commentary.

Insanity is a LEGAL term, referring to a person's diminished cupability for a crime if, due to a mental disorder, they .... well.... here it depends on the state that you are in, honestly. Generally, the standard involves if you can determine right from wrong, if you could not control your actions, etc. There are about as many different standards as there are states.

I hope this helps alleviate some of the confusion and bad information that is out there.

There are assuredly clinical definitions of insanity, depending on the professional disciplines of medical practitioners. Your GP will think you're insane if you don't follow his advice and you look at him strangely; while your psychiatrist will think you're insane if you don't look at him strangely, but you'd better follow his advice. So, I think that insanity is really an individual thing. What's insane for one may be perfectly normal for another. It is the standards of society that make it insane or not insane. It is not insane for a person to walk around the house nude, but it is insane for that person to go outside for a walk while nude. The later is not socially acceptable and such behavior could be classified as insane. Therefore, I don't have a definition of insane, only limits of what is considered sane. Am I being clear, or is this totally insane to you?

NOT MINE but...
The definition of insanity is someone who repeats the same action over and over and expects a different result each time.
Take care!

I consider a lack of understanding to be insanity.

My definition of insanity is gay men and lesbian woman. What are they thinking? That's not the way to make babies. And what's worse is men wanting to be woman and vise versa. They actually want to change (surgery) themselves to become the opposite sex? It's SOOOOOOOOOO disgusting (YUCK)!

who really can call themselves sane if everyone is different....insanity is in my point of opinion....either to much knowledge and force taking a wrong....while others use it to push themselves further....insanity can cause u to see things...yes? but when you are sane there are times you see things...does this make you insane? so there is no different...haha
