Not normally generally this is a sign of poor health, or swim bladder issues. A lot of loaches do this, and my bettas will do this when they are resting. My bumblebee catfish likes to half curl up. Other than bottom dweller types it nor normal to any great lengths of time. If can't swim normal this is a big problem.

Seriously though, this is usually a sign of distress, or "shock". They may be sick, and are about to die. Find the reason before putting new fish into the tank. You may have the wrong temperature, Ph, or some type of fungus in the water.

some fish normally lay at the bottom. What fish do you have?

depends on the fish actually. believe it or not some fish do this. fish such as the clown loach like to "play dead". not many fish do it though so chances are that if your fish are doing this then they are on their way to the big fishtank in the sky. RIP

i think it's sick or dying but i'm not sure my betta lays sort of on it's side but it's just fine.i feel bad for the poor thing.Good luck.

no, the lay on their stomachs to sleep or have a rest. your fish is probaly sick or dieing.

depends on the fish type, my black ghost knifes will sometimes play day.

and loaches are known to play dead after they eat.

Erm, no, usually, that means it's sick or dead. If it floats to the top still on it's side, it's dead.
