Catholicism believes that science and religion can coexist peacfully and neither contradict each other. In 1996, Pope John Paul II discussed evolution in a speech called "Truth Cannot Contradict Truth." For a non-catholic twist, I have heard people justify the theory of evolution in the bible by saying the 7 days were not actually 7 days but a symbol of a longer period of time (which is why there are no dinosaurs).

The theory of "theistic evolution" is that God 'created' evolution as a tool to maintain life on Earth. It is a common ground that eliminates the question of God v. Evolution.
However, there is a theory that describes creation better, both on scientific and biblical fronts. The website below is created by a set of conservative Christian scientists, and their books and writings provide the best reconciliation between science and Bible. Dr. Hugh Ross in particular has been a large influence in refining my faith as a scientist.
