I have a '96 Oldsmobile LSS. It's a 4 door! It was bought for me from a used dealership. Not alot of problems....but now the lights keep switching off and on, and i noticed it tonight while it was idling. Anyone have any answers or suggestions. And there is a book you can buy for your car, it has possible solutions for any type of problem you may have. Any one know what the book is called! I just forget the book's name. SOS! Please Help Me!

Sounds like your lights/electrical system is intermittent.
Check your fuse box and rule out whether you have any loose/blown fuses or not.

I will probably need to know what you meant by the lights switching off and on. Or is it the lights were dimming and brightening when you were idling? If it is just dimming, the problem could be with your battery. When idle, the generator is not developing high charge and the battery will be powering your lights, so when the RPM picks up, your lights brighten. Have a mechanic check your battery and alternator to see if there is a problem with either.

If it is really like switching off and on totally, you may have to check with the mechanic on the light switch wire connections. May be loose.

Hope this helps.

I personally wouldn't suggest that you waste your money on a repair manual.
The troubleshooting section that you refer to probably will not have
something as specific (and unusual) as lights cutting on and off. If the
lights are dimming, then it is most likely an alternator problem.
But if they are switching on and off, then it could be something
as simple as your headlight switch. But it sounds like you'll
have to pay a diagnostic fee to find out. Or simply drive during the day only. Good luck, I know how frustrating problems like this can be. $$

it could be a break in your electrical system and the vibration of your engine causes the broken wires to connect and disconnect also it could be something wrong with your relay or switch
