Could be lack of potassium. Eating bananas help. You could be on a water pill and not drinking enough fluids - that will definitely invite some cramps... Or, you could be an athlete who has not properly warmed up before exercise and the muscles have cramped up. Could be due to other health conditions: ie: thyroid, etc..)
Best bet, talk with your doctor, get some lab work done to ID the problem specifically to be safe.

a. Tight or close fit shoes
b. Shoe with hard sole (other than rubber or flexible material)
c. Too much of walking / jogging
d. Wearing shoe for long hours (more than 8-10 hours a day)
e. Could be some medical problem but medical problem doesn't start on its own. The causes are usually the above mentioned reasons.

Being pinned underneath heavy furnishings. Seriously, deficient movement, lengthy intervals of time within the identical positions, low potassium stages, dehydration can all play a position in cramping.

Poor circulation. Your doctor can prescribe a medicine for you or there are some over the counter things to try. Make sure you are giving some circulation in your legs too. Massage them, take warm baths, go for walks. Get some circulation!

low vitamin D, and pottasium levels. drink more milk and start eating bananas. that should help you out. also muscles cramp from lack of oxygen... do you smoke? if so this may be a sign to you to stop. and low blood pressure can also cause cramps... if eating more bananas and drinking more milk doesnt help, go see a doctor

Lack of potasium will cause charlie horses like mad! Eat Bananas regularly and see if that helps.

It could be peripheral vascular disease caused by arterial clogging or even deep vein thromboses. You need to check it out asap. It could be very serious.
