If a hydroxy group is attached to benzene ring it is called phenol
The formula is C6H5OH
Phenol is a light pink to colourless in appearance
Phenol has its characteristic anti-septic nature hence it is used in many formulations.
Phenol is used generally for animate bodies and also used for cleaning inanimate bodies like instuments in labs
Phenol is used in obtaining salicylaldehyde [C6H5(CHO)OH]
Phenol is generally obtained in markets as 1 grade preparation
Phenol is prepared in lab only

Phenol is a chemical used to produce some plastics. Phenolic plastics are hard and can be dyed in colors Some have been used as inexpensive dishes, but they are not microwave safe, so they are falling out of popularity. A phenolic plate will start to burn in a microwave. Try searching on phenolic plastics for more information.

Phenol :
Hydroxybenzene.C6H5OH. MWt 94.11g/mol. CAS [108-95-2]
Colourless, crystalline solid - characteristic tar-like odour.
MP 40.5C BP 181.7C @ 760mm
Solubility in water (at < 40C) around 8g/100ml. Above 40C miscible as a liquid forming the dihydrate.
Weakly acidic, the product was once commonly refered to as carbolic acid. It is readily converted to the phenolate anion, which is highly soluble, by the addition of a base (eg sodium or potassium hydroxide).
Phenol is still commonly used s a disinfectant (usually as a weak solution of sodium phenolate), as a component in phenol/formaldehyde resins, as a reagent in organic synthesis, in paint strippers for removal of 2-pack paints.
Pure phenol may be purchased from laboratory suppliers - it is readily available for commercial use but you would require the necessary poisons licences.

Phenol is a benzene molecule with a hydroxy group attached.
The active ingredient is Chloraseptic is Phenol, only at 1.4% though. It used to be used with formaldehyde to make Bakelite, one of the earliest plastics. I'm sure there are many other commercial uses for it.

Phenol is C6H6O. Its a six membered ring with a hydroxide group on one of the carbons. It is used like other alcohols as a sovent and as a source for proton donation. It's a good proton donater because it has resonance stabilization in its deprotenated form.
