USB is what new computers attach things like the mouse and keyboards with. More or less everything except audio equipment, the monitor, and the power source is run through the USB ports. There should be a few on the back or side of your computer. So if you're wondering if something you bought will work on your computer, it should at least plug in.

Basically, works no different than a floppy, except it holds much more data.
USB - think Universial Serial Bus.
Universal - goes almost anywhere
Bus - a mode of transportation.
Merely a way of taking files from one computer to another, so long as the other computer has a USB plug and the compatible software to open the file.

It's short for Universal Serial Bus - a standard way of connecting perhipherial devices to a computer that sends bits of data in a continuous stream instead of bits traveling in parallel.
