That will most definitely escalate the situation - but we can't speculate accurately on what will happen, as we're unsure who will ally with who, and to what extent they will honour this allegiance. At this point the real agenda behind Israel's retaliation remains alarmingly ambiguous - it would seem, given the devastating magnitude of their assault, that perhaps Israel are purporting to achieve broader ambitions. If this proves to be correct (although we hope that it is paranoid supposition), it is sure to inflame tensions existing among many other Middle Eastern nations, such as the ones you have mentioned. If this were to occur, we as civilians would probably witness an atrocious clash of conflicting interest - the ongoing insurgency providing a convenient incubator for the rapid imposition of conflicting foreign policy (you can bet the U.S will support Israel). The tragic result, of course, is more bloodshed and more civilian casualties.

It would be nice for our enemies to fight us our in the open but they're probably too smart for that...

Look at the model Osama and his buddies used against the Soviet Union (back when we liked him)...Hide your inferior numbers among the civiilian population, strike quickly in as horrific manner as possible, stir local unrest and factional hatred, torture and execute prisoners in a ritualistic fashion. Wear your enemy down. Sound familiar?

Syria and Iran would be foolish to overtly enter the conflict. Why would they spill their own blood when young fanatics flock to them from everywhere from the Ivory Coast to Orange County, ready to do their bidding? Why try to discredit or undermine the West when the the Western media is already so adept at the task? Just look at these boards...If you were an enemy of the United States would you be discouraged or encouraged by them?

Syria and Iran would only get into the mix if they were convinced that the West had totally abandoned its principles and its allies.

So the question becomes, is defending freedom and democracy now one of those jobs that Americans won't do?

I've heard many people speculate that WWIII is coming if Syria and Iran get into it, especially with the acuzations that Iran was at N. Korea's test launch of their missiles. Iraq is located in the middle of this area and with US troops located in Iraq, I can only imagine one way or another we would be pulled in. I believe WWIII is a possibility, however I don't believe in Armagedon or the idea that the whole world will come crashing to an end. One way or another the human race is bound to survive! It may be us and the roaches! But I believe we will be here!

no. they are just sitting around blowing themselves up. syria has a king. we would remove him and then they would become a democracy. the king knows to not give up his thrown. iran is just trying to make more money. we have always dislike their ruling authority and we want cheap oil. we will just use tactics to get cheaper oil. they will use tactics to make money. somewhere in between people will end up dead because they are at our mercy and consider us the great satan. each time they don't get their way conflicts arise. we could use turkey to help us over there but would you want to deal with the thugs in turkey? the best option is doing what we are doing. our newspapers is selling stories that won't ever exist. we are making a lot of money printing various outcomes that could happen but most likely won't. it is about finding ways to make more money. armageddon won't happen to this planet for another 5 billion years. by then we will already be on another planet in our galaxy.

More American troops - more American deaths - more widows - more children who will never know their fathers and in some cases, mothers - reinstatement of the draft - more money for Bush, Cheney and their Big Oil buddies. Armageddon is just a metaphor - if everyone gets into it though, you will more than likely see nukes used which will be the ultimate in global warming. Thanks, Dubya!

We'll put up a parking lot... Thank goodness Kerry isn't in office. He'd be on his prayer rug facing Mecca.

Live free or die.
