much like a TV set, except its resolution (quality) can go much higher than the sets of yesterday, HD , or high definition TV, are much more comparable to the computer monitor. now as for how they work, you have different types of computer monitors now that come in all shapes and sizes, most common are the cathode tube, LED type, and plasma, all of which work on the same Principal but show the image in differant ways.

You have in a CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Has electron guns that shoot rays a yoke and hits the phosphor coating on the screen. A screen is a grid of Red Green Blue Phosphors
