I am going to chicago soon and would like to know the best discount places to shop. I am looking for clothes and shoes, designer without designer retail prices. Any outlets or things of that nature? What about knock off purses? Please help!

these are the 3 outlet malls NEAR chicago...gurnee is north neart wisconsin, auroura is west of chicago and michigan city is about 1 hour over the indiana border

but if you can't get there, filenes basement (2 locations located downtown), nordstroms rack , tjmaxx, marshall's are your best best for getting quality designer clothes @ the lowest prices

Most of those outlet type stores are outside of Chicago in big strip malls. The city itself doesn't have a lot of that designer discount stuff. I guess DSW shoes on Clark near Halsted has some pretty good deals on shoes. There are a few consignment shops along Brodway between Diversey and Belmont (consignment shops are places where people sell their designer stuff and get a percentage of the final sales). There's a place called K&G that sells designer suits and dress at great prices. It's a little tough to get to if you are in Chicago and don't have a car (http://www.kgmens.com/). The one I go to is a little west of Evanston, which is north of the city. Got any friends that live here with a car?

In the loop you'll be looking for Filene's Basement, H and M, and the Nordstrom Rack. The Rack and Filene's Basement are both department store outlets. H and M is a very cheap but ultra trendy department store. DSW is the best bet for shoes, but I'm not sure there's one in the loop. If you can get out of the loop, try looking for Saks Off Fifth-- another department store outlet, though a bit pricey for me. There are also TJ Maxx and Marshalls in the loop-- if you have the patience to paw through the awful stuff you can find some really great things. Don't miss H and M no matter what!!!! You'll love it!

as far as knockoff purses, take a walk down chicago ave going west or there should be a guy on the corner by the rainforest cafe near ontario st. discount places, there is a filene's basement. otherwise you have to go outside of the city of chicago. however nordstrom's is pretty inexpensive as is sak's.
