Toughy, cars, for the last 20 years or so have kept track of things you do. If you remove the speedometer the computer will have a record of it. It's against the law to turn back the speedo + if it's digital then you can't. If you buy a new speedometer then you will, probably, be looking at several hundred dollars and you have to tell whomever buys it that it's been changed. The only way to lie is to lie about the number of miles it had on it when you changed the speedo. YOU MUST GO TO www.carfax.com to see what it says about your car before you do anything.

Re-build the engine from the ground up. If you're talking about rolling back the speedometer, don't. It's against the law under everything but the most extreme circumstances. If you're just trying your hand at being a crook, you don't deserve your BMW.

Though this question illustrates perfectly that cheap people can own Bimmers, too...

Build a big hamster wheel around it, and let it drive until you roll over 1,000,000 miles?

I think they tried the "reverse" trick in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Apparently, if you want to try that, park at the edge of a big drop, jack up the rear, put a brick on the accelerator and put it in reverse. Oh, and stand clear.

Turning back odometers is an illegal practice and if you are doing this for the purpose of selling or trading in, you may wish to rethink this as there is a fine imposed if you are discovered.

This is considered Fraud and not worth the effort, really.

most electronic odometers are sealed at the factory and any tampering is unlawful. driving backwards does not work,, if it is broken like in an accident
a new one can be purchased and the title can be renewed at the dmv to show the change.

Use White-Out on the speedometer.
Then write whatever mileage you want.
Nobody will be any wiser.
