They remove some parts of the females genital organs. Why do they do that?

Well, it is more commonly referred to as female circumcision. This is more of a social habit that originates from Sudan & Nuba, it is not an Islamic requirment. It is more common in the rural areas of upper egypt - near borders with sudan. Yet is also exists in some urban areas but at a much lower rate.

Why?

1- Ancient African tradition
2- Some believe it protects their daughters from mischief, since the clitoris is no longer there to provide the right sexual stimulation.

Representatives of the 28 African and Arab nations who practice female genital mutilation (FGM) met in Cairo in 2003 to develop a strategy to end this violent crime against women. While these countries maintained their interest in protecting women from this form of brutality, it is still occurring. This is a link to that conference: http://www.stopfgm.org/stopfgm/doc/EN/216.rtf

These are a variety of reasons given for Female Genital Mutilation. They range from ensuring virginity and bringing a higher bride price, to fear of the female genitals growing to the size of that of a man.

* To make the girl less interested in sex.
* To make sure the girl is a virgin when she gets married, because in some groups there is no bride price if the girl is not a virgin.
* Some groups believe that female genitals are unsightly so they are removed for aesthetic reasons.
* Fear that the clitoris is dangerous to the man, and during childbirth.
* There is a myth that the clitoris will grow to the size of a penis if it is not cut.
* Fear that the woman will not be able to have babies or will turn into a man.

This barbaric practice is now recognized as a violation of the rights of women. http://www.unicef.org/protection/index_genitalmutilation.html

Do not listen to Diablah, this practice is alive and well in Egypt, as you will discover at the following website: There is a testimony promoting this practice by an Egyptian woman, she states:

"We are circumcised and insist on circumcising our daughters so that there is no mixing between male and female... An uncircumcised woman is put to shame by her husband, who calls her 'you with the clitoris'. People say she is like a man. Her organ would prick the man..." An Egyptian woman

It's not that common in Egypt .. it's more common in Sudan and other arab countires as an inherited tradition .. thee is a faked saying from Prophet mohammed that was extensively used to promote that process assuming that cutting part of female younger clits will help in controlling their desires .. which it totally wrong ..

Nowadays, It's getting more limited especially in urban areas as most of the new families refused to do so to their daughters
