Go to Komandoo Maldives Island. The island is located on a superb location of Maldives, where you will have wonderful services and access to water straight from the water bungalows. The rates quite interesting and the exotic resort is also one of the best known for divers. It's an all inclusive resort and you can get a free sunset cruising which is available to all guests.

It's far, dude. Probably the farthest you'll ever go in an airplane. Coming from California, it's a 30-hour trip and you don't even need to change your watch -- it's exactly 12 hours different. Singapore Airlines is probably the best airline choice.

You have a couple options once you get there: staying in one of the land-based resorts or going on one of the boat charters that ply the Atoll's main and lesser-known breaks. Staying on land is a little more comfortable and roomy (obviously) but you can't surf as many spots as much as if you're on a boat the whole time, as you're dependent on the resort's group surf taxi dhonis. Dhonveli Beach and Spa (formerly Tari Village) has exclusive access to Pasta Point and will limit numbers (guests staying at the nearby Four Seasons Resort can sometimes get to surf Pasta Point as a "Day Surfer", with limited numbers); Lohifushi has exclusive land access to Lohi's and doesn't limit numbers. Land-based packages start at $2000USD per week (including air). Boat tours run approx. $3000USD per 10 days (including airfare from LA).

*Note: you cannot just "show up" in the Male airport without any accommodation booked. Tourism is super regulated (for better or worse) and you have to be part of some tour, either with a land or boat based agency.

The only reason I posted this is because my buddy was in the maldives on a boat trip and they stayed on land for two days prior to the trip and he said, boat is the only way to go. If your not surfing good luck on a place to stay. He booked his hotel three months in advance. Go to surfline travel and they have links for various travel sites that will put you in the spot. Have a sweet trip.

Hi,

The 5 star's don't do All Inclusive and if you are looking at 4 star then I recommend Komandoo, White Sands or Reethi Beach. They are all beautiful and have their own dive schools to do the open water course.
Check out the website www.visitmaldives.com for resort information. I personally would choose White Sands as it's so romantic and the food is super.

The Four Seasons Kuda Hurra is a fantastic spot. The Banyan Tree Maldives is another great choice.
