"Poser" is a bit harsh, I call them Hot Topic goths. They tend to be teenager and dress in Hot Topic garb because they think it sets them apart, while fitting in with their friends. They listen to pseudo goth bands, have never even heard of Sisters of Mercy, or read any of the novel or poems that inspired the movement. They are not real goths because they are still not sure of who they are, they're still searching. While its not a bad thing, it gives people the wrong impression of who goths are.
Real goths do still exist, despite what some people have written. They exist because being goth has little to do with the music you listen to, the clothes you wear, or the stuff you read. It has to do with the motivation to listen to that music, wear those clothes, and read those books. Goths see the evil and pain in the world, and accept it as a part of life. This does not necessarily make them depressed or morbid, just realistic. They deal with the bad stuff with humor, art, and contemplation. Therefore, many goths are witty, artistic, emotional, and intelligent. If you want another explanation, check out www.goth.net/goth. Hope that helps.

Blue Queen is confused. Real goths are not "alone and hate everyone." Goths value their friends. The bonds of freindship are important because society will shun them. I don't know many "hate everyone" goths. I know some that are condescending to the sheep, some that pity the masses for their ignorance and close-mindedness, but not many that are general mysanthropes. Being goth does not mean having "real emeotional issues and didn't broadcast it to the world." The perception of the blind masses makes them think you have issues. Not all goths are depressed, that is a stereotype brought about by ignorant sheep. They see black, they think negative. Posers...well that's a fun topic. These are the kids who think wearing black and acting anti-social and listening to angry music makes you goth. Idiots. The rubbish they put out now and brand as goth music is a far cry from what real goths listen to. The posers are the ones who don't know the roots and don't care to. They are the ones that give the rest of the group a bad reputation. Ask the poser in question to name some "goth bands." You'll know they're a poser when they answer with shyte like Atreyu and Evanescence...or any corporate band dressed in black. Ask one of those falsies who Andrew Eldritch is. Throwing out a band's name is easy enough, but ask about the real issues, the drama around the artists. Ask about Ian Curtis (may he rest in peace). Ask who "Fat Bob" is. Ask if they know who gave him that name. The music is an important part of the culture. Music is artistic, it is expressive. Goths see the beauty in things most people find distasteful. They are artistic and creative. They have an appreciation for art and life. They embrace life in it's entirety, and that whole picture consists of life and death. It's the posers that want to sacrifice cats and kill virgins. Oh and one more thing, I HATE EMOs.

There are no real goth's anymore. Everyone is a poser nowadays. It's sad to see these teenie boppers run around in black "goth"/ "punk" clothes and they don't even know what their clothes represent or anything! I hate kids. Real gothss had real emeotional issues and didn't broadcast it to the world. They were people who were alone and hated everyone. They may have had one or two friends, but not a whole ******* possy. I'm in my 20's and the real goths were wearing thin when I was in high school. There are no more real goths, just posers.
btw... you're a poser. Anyone younger than me is a poser. Looking at the other questions you've asked. You're a poser. Sorry, not to be a *****.

I agree with Blue Queen. All these "goth" kids nowadays with the black eyeliner, huge piped jeans, and chain belts are just a bunch of lost posers dying for attention. The look isn't original anymore, and anyone who recreates it wants to be recognized as a part of that group, hence, making them posers.
